CLAIRE
The Large-Scale Biosphere-Atmosphere Experiment in Amazonia (LBA)-Cooperative LBA Airborne Regional Experiment (CLAIRE)-98 was conducted from 23 March to 14 April 1998at the ground based site of Balbina (1�55'S, 59�24'W; 174 m above sea level (asl)), in Brazil, approximately 100 km north of Manaus. Balbina faces more than 1000 km of pristine forest in the prevailing wind direction. Ten research flights were conducted between 12 and 28 March by the Cessna-Citation II twin-jet aircraft of the University of Delft based at the Zanderij airport (5�47'N, 55�12'W; 10 m asl) and Sipaliwini (2�12'N, 56�06'W; 330 m asl), in Suriname.
